Plot. Absolutely primitive. Two women, a mother and daughter wander in attempts to escape death at the hands of the mysterious brotherhood of ghouls. The reason - they are women! Was the script written by Joan Campion? This is not even Anne Rice (to which they are as far as the sky, by the way). The 21st century, comrades, you see, it’s hard to believe that people who have gained immortality in such a hemorrhoid way (it’s not bit you, dug, dug) can be, to put it mildly, stupid. And what kind of society we have never bothered to describe or clarify where it came from. In a sense, there are more of these women haters with axes than three? I would like to see the rest and neighing. The plot develops very predictably, there is not a single phrase, not a single action that you would not know in advance. It would be desirable at least in the finale which is no intrigue, but no. Everything is simple and monotonous. And the sense here does not smell, well, maybe some attempts reflect on the theme of mother-daughter relations. The script - the main disadvantage of this film.
I am not a fan of Sirsha Ronan and saw her only in Guest and Byzantium, but judging by the roles in these films, the actress is none. I don't know, this is some kind of special course in Hollywood, become a clone of Kristen Stewart and will you be happy? Why is Stanislavsky's method, pretend to be a dummy, open your mouth and look at one point for a long time without blinking ... You say, she has such a reflexive role, to hell then such roles of patients with Down syndrome. Something so far none of them Dustin Hoffman in the "Man of Rain" has surpassed, and that text almost did not have. I didn’t see anyone out of such a glorified elite of English cinema, although Miller may even be an elite for our time. The actors are not bad, but since there is nothing special to play, then the roles are undisclosed and faded. The only bright spot is Gemma Utterton, at least someone played from the heart. And although the image is rather one-sided, but sensual and strong, alive, than can not stand out on a similar background.
In general, a very strange movie for me. With such a scenario, it was more logical to remove the usual vampire blockbuster of the middle hand, with action and beautiful languid actors in the twilight style. The claim for some kind of author's cinema, slow, stingy and atmospheric here is simply ridiculous. Yes, it was beautifully shot, this is Neil Jordan, the music is wonderful, but I personally barely watched it to the end, although I adore Jordan and vampire films. If I want a serious movie on a vampire theme, then it is better to reconsider "Let me in" or "Wisdom of crocodiles." Disappointed.
P.S. And this film has nothing to do with "Interview with the Vampire", do not flatter yourself those who have not watched. No stories, no images, no such actor's work here NO.
