The choice of roles by actress Blake Lively in the past five years, only stirs interest in a gradually gaining career as an actress, which is not yet thirty. The almost bohemian appearance and behavior in public contrasts sharply with strong and at the same time vulnerable images in the frame. This is where Adaline Bowman is a woman who is going through decade by decade, watching how people close to her grow old and leave, how the world around her is changing. Many, for some reason, dream, how good to live forever, that in fact, can only turn into tragedy. And while immortality remains only a fantasy, it is more comfortable to watch its reverse side in the cinema, on the other side of its television screen.
The tagline of the story, that much has changed in the last century, and Adaline - no, well conveys the idea to the film, but not its essence - otherwise it would have become a mediocre fiction or a parody of itself. The essence of this story is that Adalin is changing - inside. But after all, through the evolution of the hero, in the segment between the prologue and the epilogue, any worthwhile plot develops. As a life experience, the accumulation of a segment more than ordinary life affects the attitude to the world. What is it to see your daughter an eighty-year-old woman. What is hiding from inquisitive eyes and even government attention, regularly changing their place of residence and documents. Does Adaline look like eternal youth is so attractive after all these years. It is these questions that we pose to ourselves, as the audience - the plot does not voice them in the forehead - it only implies.
"The Age of Adaline" is a very strong example of a personal, or even one-man movie. When a bright, atypical, not flat main character, the heroine, to perceive the whole story through her. Instead of feeding the viewer a cheap fan service about the past century, with jokes, the film works thinner. Whether the metamorphosis of the world around us received the background background, being transmitted through the life experience of one woman. Even the ghosts of the past, one of which is the hero of Harrison Ford, move the story forward, complement the necessary atmosphere of melodrama.
To anticipate caustic critics, you can immediately openly say that "The Age of Adaline" is really more of a female movie. And although the main character herself is not a storyteller, we see the world through her eyes. She falls in love, grieves, then falls in love again, mourns the departed, grieves, doubts. Moreover, the film does not have a strong male character, a gender opponent - who could have revealed the Lively character even more interestingly. At the same time, the film has a great tear-toe atmosphere, there is a subtext and mood after watching, despite the notes of metaphorical sadness, it can be called upbeat.
