In my opinion, the best of large-scale, high-budget Hollywood disaster films is “Armageddon” by Michael Bay - an incredibly dynamic, rich and expressively illustrated all the events of the plot of the super-mega-blockbuster, which Bay could only wipe off its nose with its later masterpiece entertainment movie (so it’s customary to talk about it, although I personally disagree with that) Transformers. And the point is not that I saw Armageddon for the first time for a very long time, and not even in my deep respect for Bruce Willis, but in the fact that this film is head and shoulders above its closest relatives, such as “The Day After Tomorrow,” Earth core "," 2012 "and, especially," The clash with the abyss. " And that many years later, after revising all the above mentioned films, only Armageddon again I gladly devoured - second by second, while I simply looked at the rest of them in pieces - catching the most memorable fragments.
This is an absolutely complete picture, having everything necessary in it, and nothing superfluous, nothing that could upset the balance, so it’s not at all difficult to relive these fantastic 2 and a half hours: phenomenal special effects, crazy, extreme rhythm of development, in terms of tension and speed, a lot of information and colors, and love. This is also fully justified, but why do we need to save the world, if not for the sake of warm feelings, for the sake of good? Some just did not like Liv Tyler, who played the main character of the love line with Ben Affleck. But this is difficult to treat differently than a prejudice: firstly, she is really beautiful, and secondly, she played well. Although, the matter here is not even so much in an interesting cast (Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Owen Wilson, Steve Buscemi and even the late Michael Clark Duncan!), But in a riot of actions without further ado.
The special effects and scenery were made revolutionary, and why the film did not receive an Oscar, one can only guess - apparently, the envy of critics and academics was due to the director’s outstanding talent. It is not by chance that he is systematically nominated for a golden raspberry. To match the visual part and musical design, which completely conveys the emotional state of humanity and its individual representatives before the coming death. And those who accuse this film of stupidity simply did not consider its similar variations. In fact, other disaster films are much more bestial with illogical and idiotic plot tricks. And if you think about it, then it (the plot) should, in principle, only be the same intense and only as heavy and tense (the mass of inhuman tests of the characters and finding solutions at the last moment) for such a powerful film! And the name “Armageddon” is not only fully justified, but also emphasizes the whole scale and seriousness of the events of the painting. And the impression is generally such that only Michael Bay made a truly correct film in this style!
The visual miracle does not bother your eyes at all and does not bother you, and the atmosphere of death coming from the dark depths of space is transmitted to the nearest second on the timer of the nuclear warhead. But what should be praised here (and everyone needs to be praised here and all without exception) most of all, this is the director himself, who on the set does not just command the workers of the picture, but rushes everywhere with a hand-held camera, choosing personally the best views for shooting - this is a camera masterpiece art. And the very idea of sending a group of drillers instead of astronauts to an asteroid is also true, because it’s easier for the viewer to imagine himself at his place of work: people who, over 12 days, quickly explained what was to be done for years, flew into space goes on a clever and visual language.
After quite a few years after the first ten views (no less than they were then, when a videotape fell into my hands, which I cruelly rubbed), I swallowed this masterpiece again, therefore, and for the reasons that are given before. paragraphs, evaluation only one, and this is not negotiable. And for the reason that all new disaster films are necessarily compared to this, and that he left his mark, and because he simply has no equal in the subject of the asteroid threat, but also because a small meteorite has recently fallen near Chelyabinsk (everything begins small, and who knows, what if this is just the beginning?), I consider it fair to attribute “Armageddon” to the classics of world cinema.
