The film disappointed, I personally expected from a picture that received similar publicity, much more than what Scott Stewart had shown to the public in his brainchild. The current century can already be called the century of vampires in cinema. (Twilight, Van Helsing, Underworld, Let me in and more).
But, in my subjective opinion, “Shepherd” by the criterion of price-quality is inferior to all major projects. And the point is not that the picture is terrible. Yes, almost everything in the film is built on computer models and graphics, but personally the picture did not irritate me, but, on the contrary, it looked very cool. In all other respects, the film is an absolute failure.
Let's start with the plot. Unlike many classic movies about vampires, these are shown in the Scott film by some vagrants in the guise of mutants, an innovation, so to speak, that did not have to go to court. "Shepherds" are specially trained warriors who resist vampires and in turn serve the church. However, after the end of the war, society simply did not need them and they have to lead a recluse lifestyle. But after the vampire kidnapping, the main character had to take up the task again, which contradicted the views of the church, who believed that the vampires had long been exterminated. The battle scenes look dim, and Slow motion is no longer relevant. Why is humanity almost extinct, and the city looks like after the apocalypse? The author does not give answers to these questions. (It is foolish to think that this is the result of a war with bloodsuckers).
Actors. Another weighty problem picture. They are wooden and boring, and during their conversations you can fall asleep. These dialogues were needed by the author only to increase the timing. The whole caste played mediocre. Of course, Lily Collins, who plays Lucy is beautiful, but her screen time is minimal and insignificant in the semantic plane.
Philosophy. The director made attempts to touch upon the cruelty of the church and show the totalitarian structure of its hierarchy, but unfortunately he could not fully disclose this topic.
As a result, the film is mediocre and does not meet the expectations, the maximum for a single viewing.
