Circle of life

I have not seen such an unusual film for a long time. A film that would last almost three hours without losing interest in it. 'Cloud Atlas' is an absolutely unusual movie that makes you fall out of our time and plunge into the vicissitudes of the destinies of several souls walking in circles from century to century.

Six stories, united by a single canvas, which, however, does not become clear at once, appear before us, posing many questions of life.

The story of Adam Ewing.

'What is any ocean but a multitude of drops?'

Nineteenth century. Ship at sea. A young lawyer rescuing a black slave Otua from death. This piece is an adventure drama that shows us the vices and virtues that have accompanied humanity since its existence: betrayal and devotion. If not for this story, I would never have thought about the fact that the murder may not be a one-time process. You can kill, but you can kill. All the baseness of human nature is exposed in the image of a doctor who is flattered by gold.

David Gyasi - his name was unfamiliar to me before, but the image of a powerful dark-skinned slave with a huge heart was a success. Believe it unconditionally.

The story of Robert Frobisher.

"A half-read story is like love abandoned halfway."

30s of the twentieth century. A young composer passionately in love with his friend, the physicist Rufus Sixsmith. In any other form, such a story would not have attracted my attention, but here these relations were presented surprisingly aesthetically and touchingly, making me think about the souls of the heroes, and not about their belonging to a particular gender or social stratum. Before us unfolds a historical drama, where again there is a place of envy and greed.

Ben Whishaw looked very organic as a young rake with a tarnished reputation. You sincerely sympathize with his hero, not paying attention to any conventions.

The story of Louise Rey.

70s of the twentieth century. A young, principled journalist takes on the investigation of a case that could cost her her life. This part is more like a mixture of action and thriller.

Holly Barry is one of the three actors who literally carried this movie on their shoulders. Her Louise is feminine and unbending, intelligent and extraordinarily energetic. And even though the love thread here is only a hint, the story still deserves all praise, because it poses the eternal question to the viewer: are you ready to risk your future for the future of others? “The boldness of the city takes” - this is about her, about Louise Rey.

The story of Timothy Cavendish.

Our days. An eccentric old man, mired in debt and greatly annoyed his own brother. This is a slightly strange story, different from the rest, filled with humor and is more of a tragicomedy.

Jim Broadbent was, to put it mildly, not the cutest old man, but his desire to defend his right to freedom of action commands respect. It is a triumph and a laugh at the same time. Strange, but the crazy company of old people, stealing a car, for some reason makes you root for them with all your heart.

Sunmi's story 451.

'Truth is always one. Any distortion of it is a lie. '

The year is 2144. Korea. The world is divided into those who are called purebreds, and manufactured goods - clones created by people to satisfy their needs. This part is perhaps the most powerful of all. In its genre, Sunmi's story is a love dystopia. Here we are shown the world of the future, the world of consumer society, which, however, will soon be destroyed anyway. The story of Sunmi and Hye Joo Chen is the story of the struggle for freedom and equality, the struggle for love and the opportunity to live in a world without convention. This story, although unlike the previous ones, demonstrates love in all its power, is still the most cruel. Not because of the blood, but because of the fear that infiltrates the soul.
